Mid-Term Effectiveness of Behavioral and Psychodynamic Inpatient Treatments of Severe Obesity Based on a Randomized Study

2006

Background: The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of psychodynamic and behavioral inpatient treatments of severely obese patients regarding weight and distress. Methods: In a longitudinal study obese patients (body mass index, BMI ≧35) were randomly assigned to behavioral or to psychodynamic inpatient treatment. Mostly female (n = 267; 85%) obese patients with psychiatric and somatic comorbidity (age 20–64 years, BMI 35–74) were examined with standardized self-report scales on distress (SCL-90R), interpersonal problems (Inventory of Interpersonal Problems), eating behavior (Fragebogen zum Essverhalten) and body image (Fragebogen z…

Prenatal and postnatal residential usage of insecticides in a multicenter birth cohort in Spain

2013

Abstract: This study aimed to describe the residential use of insecticides in a birth cohort in Spain. Study subjects were 2 456 women enrolled into the INMA (Environment and Childhood) birth cohort followed prospectively during pregnancy and in the early postnatal period. The women were recruited at the beginning of their pregnancy between 2003 and 2008 in four regions of Spain. Socio-demographic, environmental and lifestyle information was obtained at two interviews during pregnancy, one at the first (mean:13.8 +/- 2.6 weeks of gestation) and the other at the third trimester (mean: 33.3 +/- 23 weeks of gestation). Information about prenatal use of indoor and outdoor insecticides (type, ti…

Traditional knowledge and practice of the Triassic variegated clay from Silesia (Krasiejów), Poland, in human medicine.

2021

AbstractBackgroundKrasiejów clay (in German: Krascheow) became famous following the discovery of numerous fossilised bones of Upper Triassic amphibians and reptiles, which have been extracted from clay deposits since the 1980s. These organic remnants remained in Krasiejów clay due to the large amount of slime deposits and the optimal concentration of basal mineral salts. The main aims of the paper are to determine the historical evolution of the use of clay in Silesia for therapeutic purposes and to provide a summary of the historical uses of Krasiejów clay as a medical treatment, based on the knowledge of the local population.MethodsThe mode of utilisation of Triassic variegated claystone t…

Comparing two methods of analysis of single-ring infiltrometer data for a sandy–loam soil

2009

Abstract The single-ring pressure infiltrometer (PI) with the steady-state Two-Ponding-Depth (TPD) application method were developed to simultaneously determine the saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, K fs , and the α ⁎-parameter in the field. Methods of analysis of transient PI data are also available but they have received little testing so far. The transient WU method and the TPD method were compared for a sandy-loam soil. A linearization technique of the infiltration curve yielded more reliable K fs and α ⁎ results (i.e., falling within expected ranges) than a non-linear optimization technique. The WU method gave both positive and reasonable K fs and α ⁎ values for all infiltration t…

Influence of Two Different Coating Application Methods on the Maintenance of the Nutritional Quality of Fresh-Cut Melon during Storage

2021

This study aimed at evaluating the effects of two coating application methods, spraying and dipping, on the quality of fresh-cut melons. An alginate-based coating containing both ascorbic and citric acid was applied at two concentrations (5% and 10%) with both methods on fresh-cut melon. The nutritional quality of the products was investigated during 11 days of storage at 10 °C. The suitability and adaptability of the applied coatings on the fruit were evaluated based on rheological and microstructural properties. Moisture, carotenoids, total polyphenols and ascorbic acid content were analyzed on melon samples during storage. Results showed that the coating solution applied by the dipping m…

Informal situated counselling in a school context†

2008

The institutional regulation of counselling conversations does not always provide optimal conditions for counselling. Many teachers experience that some “normal” conversations develop into conversations which are of a counselling nature. Conversations which resemble counselling can be optimal counselling opportunities. In this paper we describe and develop these counselling conversations, which we call Informal Situated Counselling. †An earlier version of this article has been published in Norsk Pedagogisk Tidsskrift [Journal of Norwegien Pedagogic].

Analgosedierung bei neurochirurgischen Intensivpatienten

1990

Different concepts for analgosedation of neurosurgical patients are recommended during postoperative ventilation. In 30 neurosurgical patients (2 groups of 15 patients), we studied a continuous i.v. application of alfentanil (Rapifen) and midazolam (Dormicum) compared to an application of continuously given alfentanil with discontinuously given midazolam. A good analgosedation (i.e. sufficient sedation with good neurological judgement) was more frequently achieved (8/15 patients) by continuous application of both substances (alfentanil 0.023 mg/kg b.w./h, midazolam 0.10 mg/kg b.w./h), compared to discontinuous application of midazolam (4.5/15 patients; alfentanil 0.028 mg/kg b.w./h, midazol…
